If people looked on jobserve they would see that there is only one or two jobs for Dubai advertised every week or two, and they are very specialist.
Shiva, your mate who works in recruitment, can you get their take on things. she doesnt beat around the bush.

There will definately be someone that can do what you do cheaper. Anyone that just flies down to dubai without acting proactively to atleast learn about opportunities of their specific field is out for a big surprise.
the least you can do is look up directories and come to visit certain facilities even if you arent there for an interview at least have an idea of what companies in your field are already here. like IT ppl could appreciate a visit to DIC.

in a nut shell folks its bloody tough out here, time to shatter the illusion.
expat packages are disappearing faster than tony blairs credibility, some co.s are now trying to put expats on local packages now to save money.expect toearn less than you want.
however qualified and experienced you are, it doesnt matter a damn as there will be an indian who is more qualified and experienced than you who will work for half of what you can afford to live on.
accomodation costs are crippling , and i do mean crippling.
i have friends in recruitment, they get an average of 200-400 c.v.s for each job advertised, so its no surprise that most applications just dissapear into the ether. i know for a fact that after the first decent dozen c.v.s the rest get deleted without even being looked at.
and youre passport is key.
they are extrememly racist out here so if you dont have a UK/US or western european passport forget it.when they say us/uk educated they dont just mean education they mean what passport do you hold.
if you want to come here to look for a job, it WILL take about £5000+ and 3 months and even then youd better be bloody well qualified.
on the plus side i love this town its brilliant fun, but cheap it aint. if you do want to come here just make sure you know what its going to take , because for everyone who makes it there are 10's if not 100's who fail.
good luck and open youre eyes

A fair few companies expect you to pay this out and claim it back afterward, so be sure you have a healthy bank balance.

I agree with MT, appreciate that you like to help others but don't put your butt on the line too much....it's a dog eat dog world out here and you better believe it.
Let them do the donkey work, you do enough by just being here anserwing the mundane questions like where to spend NYE .....which after all is much more important.
Sorry newbies, no offence meant but you have to learn to cut those apron strings a little bit and do some research and maybe take a wee risk yourselves...we have, that's why we are here LOL

My brother is now in Dubai working, so "I shall go to the ball" sometime this year. First, off to Aberdeen in January
