Job possibility in Qatar
Hi,
I am a process engineer with more that 20 years experience in O&G. What sort of package / day rate I should expect. Appreciate feedback.

Hmmm....I sincerely hope it is that simple in this current low oil price scenario. All of us here want the best possible deal and at the same time being pragmatic....thanks anyways...

Mate , let's be honest you should know the going rate for what you do . At least a ball park figure of what the deals are and how they are structured.

That's a bit harsh if the OP hasn't been involved in the ME recently, or at all. The value of something only ever equates to what someone's willing to pay for it, and let's be fair, the ME O&G industry has gone through turmoil in the last 10 years.

You guys are stalwarts of this forum. People like me, new to the forum, look up to you for advise. For experienced personnel in O&G, my understanding is nett 1000 USD per day (and with oil price hovering around 40 to 50 dollars) should be a reasonable rate. The intent of my post was to get feedback on ME market as I do not have any clue. Cheers

PN5 - you will not get $1000 a day in this market. I have heard figures of $550-$650 per day plus housing allowance (about $1500-$2000) + medical allowance.
This is the sort of package you can expect on a contract hire.

Re: Job possibility in Qatar
Big differences between day rates (for short-term assignments), packages (for permanent employment), OEM/specialist company rates (employees hired out by sizeable companies) and the self-employed. $1k per day is not unusual for a specialist from an OEM, for a relatively-short duration (often up to $1.5k), but usually the guy actually doing the work will be on a fairly average salary. Process engineers aren't two-a-penny, and it's always driven by supply and demand.

Appreciate feedback from all of you, allows me to be more realistic and negotiate. They are offering a similar figure as suggested by RI207 for a 3 year contract. Thanks.

Re: Job possibility in Qatar
Weeks / year: 52
Leave weeks: 6
Working weeks: 46
Days / week: 5
Working days / year: 230
Gross: $600 x 230 = $138,000
Even better if they flog you and make you work 6 days a week.
