Default Jizan Saudi Arabia

I've been contacted by a major recruiting firm in Qatar, (UK based) about an opportunity in Jizan. Anyone have some information about this location and what is going on there?

Cheers!!

Bit of a sleepy little place to be honest, although classed as a City, it's pretty quiet. Have been there on business a few times. Has its own airport, and as you probably know, right on the border with Yemen, but it a fair distance away from anything else eg Jeddah for the nearest International Airport.

On the coast, so activities will be mainly centred around that, fishing, diving snorkelling. Nearby Farasan Islands are supposed to be nice, ferry ride about 2hrs away.

I think I'd get bored pretty quickly if I was there permanently. Government are trying to develop it and make it a tourist destination for the other Saudi's, so there is a lot of development going off down there, although with the economic downturn, would imagine a lot of that has slowed down.

As you know, there is military conflict going off with Saudi and Yemen, so just watch the odd rockets that get fired over the borders.

It was part of the Yemen until the 1930s. Big moves on recently to develop Jizan and the Farasan islands. Self-reliance called for if you are posted there !

Sorry for the delay in replying. Thank you both for this good information. I hope to hear back about the opportunity with Air Products. They are secondment to Aramco. I'll keep the forum informed.

Cheers!!

Jizan, you lucky boy.
First off forget Jizan as you will almost certainly be working and living in the Jizan industrial area north of Jizan. Look on the map for something sounding or reading like baish and turn left towards the sea. Jizan has 2 reasonable hotels, Baish has **** all but lots of decent European spec labour camps now finished so you will save money, there is **** all to spend it on. The road from Jizan to Baish is madness however you can fly Jizan to Dubai direct now.
The weather is more humid than elsewhere in Saudi and the sand storms horrendous but at least seasonal
The drive up to Abha is Saudi sensation and worth videoing as you will find the madness beyond words.

As the camps are good and you have no reason to go out of camp, if the money is right then it's laugh all the way to the bank

Thank you for the information Tockalosh. I spent a year in Jeddah and that was quite humid at times with the occasional sand storm. But alas, I have not received any reply from the company. I guess they don't know a good thing when they see one.
