Jebel Ali Riots
According to informed sources, several thousand constuction workers staged a series of riots yesterday/today causing damage to cars and property including a medical centre. As it may not get full media coverage (for the usual reasons), it would be interesting to learn if anyone else has heard about it. The Police have evidently cordoned off the area, the motive presumably being poor living conditions and unpaid wages.

Without (hopefully) sounding too ignorant, would it ever make international press? Just a thought on how the poor buggers could get their voices heard.

Yes workers rioted at the Dubai airport site and continued at the camps in Jebel Ali.

Re: Jebel Ali Riots
.....hear something sad few expats went to play beach volley ball against a labourers team at one of the camps and were told that they can't do it again as its to disruptive to the camp.....
I've been thinking about these poor guys and yes we are so lucky...I even had thoughts of approaching some companies to sponsor buying a whole load of mini fridges and bikes to be gifted to these labourers. As the ones I see near me seem to walk for miles in the heat, some of the lucky ones who have bikes give lifts to others on the handle bars...
Obviously money is of greater value to them but anything would count eh
