iPod & iTunes

does anyone know if I can upload to my iTunes from my iPod?

I haven't been able to do it. Is it possible or it prevented to stop people sharing music?

I've not had to try it yet - but it should be possible. The ipod is just a seperate hard drive - if it is not obvious in itunes - try using windows explorer (if you is PC) and just fine the files to copy to your hard drive?

I could be wrong (in fact I usually am)...

I tried this some time ago, Apple have tried to prevent this, but if you check on Google there is ways around it.

You can drill down into your iPod through Windows Explorer, but I remember this being a bit laborious...easier to use Limewire to download your music :D

I suppose you could go through with explorer, but I can belive it could take some searching. the only thing I wanted to do was to upload from my laptop not connected to the net and then use iTunes on my PC to get the names for the songs. I acctually ended up using the iPod as a disc and copying the file to it. The file was full of songs and was bigger than a disc so that is why I wanted to upload from the ipod. just thought up and downloading thru itunes and ipod might of been poss just me missing the plot. suppose it helps control the piracy of music, which I am totally against obviously!!!! :p

Have you guys got any movies on your ipods yet? I was looking into how to rip a dvd on to it. you need at least two different software when using a pc. Apperently dead easy when done on a Mac!

Also you guys found any decent podcasts? I have listened to the Best of Chris Moyles, (BBC radio one DJ) and BritPod. Britpod is a bit weird don't know if they are british, american or canadian or a mix of all three!!! Still searching for some.

Not tried video yet - looks like a little bit of a hassle on PC but possible - though I tend to use the pod in the car mostly so video not really appealing as yet!

With podcasts - only Ricky Gervais - very funny indded. Well worth getting them - download from here

Cheers,

Auto.

PS I hear this site is good - not quiet legal but in a grey area kind of... pay a little (about 7 dhs / 1 squid per album) depending on file sizes - which you choose yourself to your requirements...

Can anyone help??

My daughter got the iPod photo for xmas. After unpacking everything from the box, she now can't find the installation disc that came with it. We have downloaded itunes from the Apple website. Can we use a 'normal' iPod disc to get the photo iPod started or is the photo installation disc different.(We have the 20GB click wheel iPod so could use that installation disc)

I was going to do this and then go online to see if I could update it. Not sure if this will work. Don't know if I can obtain a new CD.

Sorry for being such a thicko but don't want to ruin this new iPod by installing wrong software on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Not tried this, but it should work...the idea behind iTunes is that it works on all iPod platforms if you have the latest iTunes software (from website).

Worst case is you get original CD, install and it will wipe anytihng currently on the iPod.

If stuck try [email protected] :)

You need to enable the ipod in disk mode and make sure it is set NOT to auto-sync

Thanks but I already trawled through the Apple website you advise. I attempted to download the recent 2006 updater but all I get is an error message saying the ipodsteup(1).exe is not a valid Win 32 application (whatever that means)

I will use the iPod installation disc we have and see what happens. If all else fails then I will have to go down to the Apple Service Centre to see if they can help.

I can't believe that the disc that came with the iPod has vanished off the face of the earth.

Thanks for your replies. Much appreciated.

Benson,

Many thanks for your link to the Macrumors forum. :)

iMeowbot kindly helped me out and I have managed to get the iPod set up and have installed the latest updater.

What would we do without these forums??

Cheers
