How do these work?
I have a laptop which says wireless but do I need anything else? Also do Starbucks do free internet connect via wireless and if so do i need any special protection?:blink: |

Most likely there's nobody scanning you, of course, and if you're just generally browsing the web rather than doing internet banking or stuff like that then there probably isn't much for you to worry about. If you *do* plan to use websites that need passwords, though, I wouldn't use a hotspot without running something like PersonalVPN. |

Ideally, yes. Public wireless hotspots are notoriously insecure, because everything is sent between laptop and hotspot in-the-clear, which means that anyone with the right gadget within a fairly large radius can pick up your passwords etc.
