I know I dont belong here...

But I cant find anyyyyy sites relating to American Expats living in Riyadh.

My case is an odd one I guess. I am married to a Lebanese man, who lived in America for 5yrs and was deported for some immigration issues. He has a 10yr ban. We went to Lebanon together and living for 18mths. The salaries are HORRRRRIBLE in Lebanon. We have a baby son who was born May 30th 2008.

He had some time working in Riyadh before he ever went to America, so his brother in law---who is an executive chef here for one of the conference palaces. Anyway...We came here, we are Christian and this is my first expierence with having to cover and having to basically sit in my house alllll the time.

We arent lucky enough to live on a compound and honestly since Georges job only gives a 20,000SAR housing allowance per annual I dont really see us living on one lol, we sure could pay some extra but for what, to not be able to save money? Not living in a compound is very hard because I dont speak any arabic and of course all my neighbors in the building downtown riyadh are arab with little knowlegde of english lol.

My point for coming here is to make some friends. I need english conversation!!

Thanks for reading if you have got to this point

Welcome to BE!

Don't worry about not being a Brit, there's plenty of folks from various other countries on here.

Have a nose around some other threads as there might be some info for you on what to do etc :)

Have you given any thought to studying Arabic?
It will open your world.

You're welcome to The Bored............... in your case, literally it seems.

Now sit down and listen............

That housing allowance is totally inadequate and will not only prevent you from finding anywhere on a compound, it will prevent you from having a social life at all (because the areas you will be able to afford on that allowance are not places you would wish to socialise in at all).

You seem willing to share some detailed personal information, so allow me to ask for some more - what is your husband's salary, and does it include anything else (travel, tickets, etc)?

I think you are either being brave or foolish - it cannot be a worthwhile experience living in - sorry to say this - abject poverty.

The things people do for love eh
Marry an illegal in the US then when he is found out and hoofed, follow him around the arse holes of the world
I thought marrying the equivalent of a beach boy from the Gambia was a uniquely middle-aged British womans pastime
Hoof it back to Lebanon me thinks. Better to be skint in a civilised place where you can communicate

Some very good suggestions above. It doesn't take long to learn rudimentary Arabic - if you have constant internet access, have a look at Livemocha.com.

Try the Saudi Aramco expats forum and search for expats living in the Riyadh area..there will probably be social events and meet ups and I am sure you would be made welcome:
