Default How to set up paying Class 3 voluntary National Insurance contributions?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows the route to begin paying Class 3 voluntary National Insurance contributions in the UK?

A little rusty myself regulations wise, having been non-resident since 1977!

My daughter has just about got herself a NI number (paperwork submitted after interview, and NI number should arrive in 6 weeks it seems) and I guess needs to begin contributions. She has been an expat since 6 weeks old!

Thanks,

Jim.

See here-

Note that UK NI rules are in the process of changing and you need much fewer years to qualify got a full pension after 2010. I have more than 30 years already paid so I already qualify for a full pension. If I leave the UK this year (as I presently intend to) I will not be paying any NI contributions. HTH.

Thanks will check it out!

Yes I have completed my contributions but guess in current climate have to battle on for a few years more at least and then review the retirement climate!

also you can only pay them for so long, and then its not worth it as they just disappear and dont make any difference, so i am told.

BC.

Not sure of the full circumstances but she is 27!

Just visiting, but I have been saying she needs a number for some years!

it's fine. Yes, you get your NI number when you get your first job in the UK (I got mine when I was, er... 20? 22?). 30 years of contributions (just changed recently) and if you claim Child Benefit, you get more years deducted.

I was a student until age 26, so had limited contributions during that time. They occasionally sent me letters saying I could top-up voluntarily, but I'm going to see how it pans out over the next few years.
