How do I find a good second hand car in Riyadh?
We're new to Riyadh. Looking for a reliable second-hand car but don't have a big budget. Trying to find a website or an expat network where that has expat cars for sale. Can anyone help?

It's been a long time since I was in Riyadh, so things may have changed.
I seem to remember you virtually only had 3 options:
1. Ads placed on the noticeboards in the supermarkets and also in compounds
2. The car souk. A large area with literally 1000's of cars for sale. You would need to go with someone who is fairly familiar with how to buy here
3. Buying new from a showroom.
The best buys are from ex pats as they tend to have looked after their cars better.
Where I now live in Dubai there is a classified ads website called Dubizzle. Perhaps there is something similar in Riyadh.

try this too: http://www.expatriates.com/classifieds/saudi/
you might need to sort out the crap but there are some genuinely good deals as well as local people trying to sell their crap the special expat price = local price +20%
If your budget is limited + you are looking for a small car + don't want to deal with the hassle 2nd hand, you might want to consider something like bying a new tata car which are decent for a very small budget.

ay-up
Nah then lad thaa has two options. one is if you have an iqamah and a regular steady income go for the lease rental buy on a new Toyota and then you will get your money back at the end of your stay, should is be two years or under when you sell the lease on to another expat. This is the preferred method than buying in the higly inflated and very risky second hand lemon err I mean car market.
Never buy from an Egyptian and basically the rest of the people of the Levant if you are buying second hand. Indians are better but truth be told you can get some excellent bargains on the gas guzzlers that some American expats are bringing over. Once the have them shipped in and all the paperwork correct its just like buying any second hand car which requires as everything in KSA paper and stamps or as they say in Arabic
Khatam warraqa
If you are hell bend on buying privately second hand then check out the Aramco auction /for sale forum. Although most vehicles will be in Dammam Jubail al Khobar its only a short 500 km drive from Riyadh and if you get a shared taxi down for 50 Riyals to pick up your new bargain then the petrol back will be no more than 50. It beats the Train cos on that line from riyadh to al khobar its you that takes the strain not the Train!!
If you want me to put out some feelers out around the expats of Riyadh then drop me a private message.

There are two places to sell second hand cars in Riyadh. The first one is in ( Alshafa ) and the second one is in ( Alnaseem ). If you buy a car from someone you know it will be better. You should take any second hand car you want to buy to any mechanic before you buy to make sure that it has no problem.

Other options are renting or leasing. I am renting a Lancer for SR60 a day which includes comp insurance and recovery/replacement in the event of an accident.
An example of leasing is a Nissan Pathfinder for around SR2800/month, it all depends on timing and stock levels.
