Hoping to move to AD or Dubai
Hi all
This is my first post here and im looking for some sound advice,
First of all im a self employed electrician living in the south of Ireland, There is work here but it is getting harder and harder to collect my money ( at this moment and time im out about €12k:curse
Ive read as many post as i could on this forum about living, cost, work etc and it seems some people think the construction is booming and some think its at a stand still.
All im looking for is a change for a few years, better life style some good weather and gain more experience in my field
I love the sun (so does my wife lol)
Im looking for a job as a Electrical supervisor/ foreman
Where not big drinkers
i love motorsports espically motorbike racing, i do it here at home
is it better to wait for an offer before we go or is it better just to book a flight go there and try and meet these people in person, what are the chances of getting a job this way
Thanks a mil for any advice in advance and hopefuly i will see ye out there in the near future as im itching to get out of this place for a while

i would think that the pay for an electrical foreman is going to be peanuts...with rent and cost of living so high now, it's probably not a great idea to look to move here...oh, and i don't think you'll find anyone who would describe construction here as "booming" right now...

MM is right - search other places! We are in Dubai now and we are having to look outside of this place - too many looking for work and it will get worse before it gets better!

I agree with you both. Try www.gulfnews.com - there are some positions there but they appear to be for Asians and hence the pay is very very low.

Without sounding offensive though, the job you are looking for is normally filled by a South Asian, which are much cheaper than us Westerners

Why not try getting Oz visa?
We are here in Dubai in construction also, but looking to pull out. Some guys in the construction industry seem to be mananging to hold on to their jobs, but there will be many more laid off here coming this 1st Qtr.......
Good luck.

Re: Hoping to move to AD or Dubai
Glad all the industry professionals have added their comments, so here are mine:
Admon; spot on.
My first job in the UAE was as an electrical supervisor/foreman.
And MM I certainly was not paid peanuts,
There are not the same openings nowadays but still there are some.
If you go to oil/gas facilities, market yourself and your CV as an electrical project engineer.
For construction, yea its on its arse but I'm sure there would be positions?? Again market yourself correctly.
A company will want you for your management skills not your housebashing skills. They have slave labour for that.

your probably right but we saw a good one on there for a big company who had a half page thingy in the paper. Looked good. Took two seconds to e mail CV so nothing lost really.
