Hijri New Year/ Muharram - still no announcement??

According to my calendar Sunday should be a holiday but absolutely no announcements where I work and I can't see anything announced in the press either. Is it just being ignored this year?

It's on the official websites also: http://www.visitabudhabi.ae/en/plan.....holidays.aspx

It's just been announced!

UAE to move the New Hijri Year's holiday for public and private sector employees to December 1 (Thursday)

They really do make it up as they go along, don't they?

Just announced....
Christmas (25th Dec) will be moved to the 27th so that people will get a 4 day holiday ... Can you imagine the outcry if we randomly moved our religious holidays?? :D

Can you imagine the outcry if a holiday was given to accommodate those naive enough to believe a single mother gave birth without any horizontal mambo taking place?

Can you imagine the outcry if an extra day's holiday was announced and people whinged about how it should be on Tuesday and to hell with the 4-day holiday?

Old school BE's please explain  Hijri is the New Year for Muslims, yet why is it tomorrow in Bahrain & next week in Dubai. I know they look to the sighting of the moon and crap, but my staff are off on Sunday....me not understand.

Here in Saudi, we don't get anytime off for the 1st of Muharram. They don't see it as a religious day. Just the two eids and national day (which we only started getting off a few years ago).
