Default Help Please - Old Debt in Dubai - legal help

Hi, I was living in Dubai in 1998 and left some debt behind, I have not been back since, but now my company is sending me there for a seminar...I can't say NO!

I now have a new passport, and it's been some years, (since I was young and stupid) - can anyone please tell me if they will arrest me at immigration on entry?

I am super stressed about it.

Thanks for any advice.

Best

TK

Thanks RoadKing for your reply. I don't have any contacts there in Dubai. Unfortunately...how would I go about getting a record checked?

Regards

and by checking with the police, you can alert them to open a file

Police won't open a file unless a complaint is lodged by the bank...they have enough open files to keep them busy.

Kev, only way I know is to go to a police station and ask, hence you need a friend to do this. Unless you know for sure that you are clear, I wouldn't take the risk of coming, take a sick-day!

If you have a new passport and they never took photos of you previously then I can't see how they would know who you are. There must be more than one Tokyo Kev in this world on a British passport.

If it was pre-retina scans and finger prints you'll be fine.

All the old immigration computer systems worked on passport numbers. It was standard practice in KSA to change passports if you got an exit only for any offence.

Unfortunately they have introduced fingerprinting and facial recognition in the last year

If I'm wrong please accept my condolences as a source of comfort in your sweaty cell, you thieving bastard hahaha.

Don't have too much sympathy with you mate - lesson to be learnt for all those other skippers who think their debts/mistakes will never catch up with them. Bollox to you being young - we've all been young at some point in our lives, doesn't mean we've racked up debt and bailed.

Either a) fess up and be a man b) wimp out and take a sickie.

Even better - why don't you clear your debt? (doesn't seem to have crossed your mind?)

I liked that. Why do we have to sympathize with people who did stupid mistakes and make our day to day life worse in this military state.

You guys give us bad name..

nah don't you still have the same passport number forever though? I got a new one recently and it has the same passport number on it.

I'd advise not coming, however diffiuclt it may be. Just tell your boss. Better than 6 months in a Dubai jail my friend.
