When getting your certificates attested for work visa in Dubai, does this just mean gettiong a solicitor from UK signing and stamping them to say they are true or do i need to actually get them from the British embassy in Uk .
Please let me know what the exact procedure is.
Thanks

First, it needs to be stamped and signed by a British solicitor.
Then it needs to be stamped by the FCO - either go yourself or post it to them
Then (and this is the part I missed out) you need to send it to the UAE Embassy in London so they can also stamp and sign it. This part costs £10 and it has to be a postal order - don't send a personal cheque or they will just sit on it and not send it back.
I know some people haven't had to have it signed by the Embassy, it all depends on your employer or sponsor. But believe me, it makes life much easier if you do it correctly in the first place!

The exact procedure is fairly complex.
You need to see the U.A.E Embassy in the UK and get it stamped by the FCO. Then you get it back to Dubai and get it stamped by the ministry of higher education, who will recognise the U.A.E stamp from the UK.
Not too expensive, just complex!
Enjoy the site.

This has caused problems in the past with respect to the UAE Goverment. As it is seen as a form of unnessacery "Double Requesting" by European/American Governments. As I was told at the American Embassy in Holland? As per 01-01-2004 the USA Government refuses these reconfirmation requests. What ever happens, never let any stamps be placed on the back of them by others, only from American sources. I have friends that went back to the USA and there degrees where promptly refused as the USA see's it as "Tampering with original documents". Also with other certificates, it might be wise to request that a "Copy Confirmed" go through the re-confirmation procedure. As there are countries in Europe (Germany / Belgium / France and Italy) that will make you problems if additional stamps and / or remarks are placed on the back of the orriginal certificate(s).
Just be warned okay?

Hey Envy..
I have a simillar problem. I have my Masters degree from UK. I was told to get it attested in UK by the UAE embassy and also another dept of the UK govt.
I wish i was in UK to do all this, but im in Abu Dhabi.
So how does one go about doin this? As you suggested can we send a postal order of 10 pounds to the UAE embassy in UK n get this done?
Have u had any success doing the same?
Please do let me know.
Thanks
Tim

Just to add to what everyone else has said - the solicitor must sign and stamp a copy as an authentic copy.
This and the original are taken to the legalisation dep't of the Foreign and commonwealth office in the Old Admiralty building on the Mall (2 mins from trafalgar square) Its a ticket queuing system, very fast in the mornings and the actual legalisation of a document takes around 15 minutes and costs 12 pounds.

You can do this by post:
http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?...=1007029391458
You then take the original and copy to the UAE consulate (Not embassy - its a different building) This is opposite the Natural history museum, etcetera. It costs around 10 pounds again and is done overnight or if you take a stamped addressed envelope they'll post it on.
48 Prince’s Gate, London SW7 2QA, UK
Tel: (020) 7589 3434.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 0930-1300.
Hope this helps

Hi TS,
Just a quick question, are the original degrees stamped? Or is a copy made of them and then legalized?
Frans
P.S. Just read my earlier posting, then you'll understand the question.
