Hello! Just popping in for some advice!

Hello everyone!

Just popping in from the Oz forum to pick your brains.

We are stopping over in Dubai for 2 days on the way to Oz and one day on the way back. There will be 4 adults and a 3 year old. Accommodation is sorted but how much money would you think we would need for taxis (inc to/from airport) meals and general wandering around/coffees etc? (Assume any shopping will go on CC) Don't want to change too much cash, only to have to change it back later.

Thanks for the help!

Adi

Difficult to say as no idea what Hotel you are in and how far from airport.

Also in general a coffee would cost between 10-15 AED a 10 min Taxi ride approx 25 AED, something like a Big Mac 20 AED

It's difficult to answer re not knowing what standard you are looking for, uperclass restaurants will take the Credit card anyway

Enjoy Dubai any further info required let us know.

no need to change it back...you can just donate it to the local BE charity...I'll make sure it gets to the right place...

Re: Hello! Just popping in for some advice!

Taxi from airport has a 25Dh pick up fee, so from airport expect taxi 40Dh to 70Dh depending on how far to hotel.

Around town Taxis are 10Dh for shortish trips to 40Dh for longer runs. Greater Dubai, for want of a better expression, is a sprawling place these days, practically a continuous urban stretch from Ajman to Jebel Ali.

Drinks- large juice from stall 10Dh, Coconut juice from shell 5Dh.

Abra crossing across the creek - Good value at 1Dh, and a great Dubai experience - You could be anywhere inside the shopping malls, except perhaps Ibn Battutah which has some distinctive character.

Hope of some help, enjoy your stay.

Thanks for all the replies - so helpful! Might have to think about the party fund, though....

We are staying at the Royal Home Apartments on Mankhool Road. Hope they are OK as too late to change now!!!

I notice that some of you use AED and some Dh. Are these different ways of writing Dirhams?

Off to the bank to order some dosh before the £ drops through the floor completely!

Mankool Road is not bad, a very busy area, close to BurJuman shopping centre...
They are indeed one and the same...in daily speak it's dirhams. No need to take loads of money...there's plenty of ATM's, also in the airport.

Oh yea weather is about 20oC so can be a bit chili in the shade and at night, make sure you have a wrap, or jumper with you easy access.

Also may be an Idea to book the Marhaba service to get you out of the airport as depending what time you land it can be very very very busy at customs etc and it could take over 2.5 hrs to get through

This looks really interesting! Pity they don't take online bookings though :(. Will have to find a secure way of sending them my card details! A quick phone call to Dubai methinks.
