Health insurance United Arab Emirates
My husband is a highly qualified expat from the USA and is offered a job in Abu Dhabi. He is offered only the national health insurance called Daman and no short term disability insurance. At the Daman they have exclusions of accidents happening when doing sports, of some diseases, a limit on what they pay yearly,... Is the offer usual? Do you know of any insurances we could buy aditionally? Should we negotiate for an better insurance?
Thank you!
Thank you!

there are different levels of daman, its not always the cheapest policy, other companies use different companies, we have allianz, but if thats the company policy then you may not be able to change it, after all there are quite a few "highly qualified expat" with daman insurance.

also to add; the law states now that all companies need to provide health insurance, it doesnt say it must provide you with this this and this, i know some people who for eg, want bupa so they pay for it themselves, and most policies are limited, ie ours pays for dental (most dont) and only up to a limit, or only 50% refund etc and only at certain places you dont get a choice etc. i know that you are coming from the usa but they all have exceptions such as you have suggested. if you are concerned then you may have to top it up yourselves.

we have GMC international cover, a french company who so far have been fabulous. they cover absolutely everything and pay direct into bank account, which with my experience of goodhealth is a marvelous thing.
I wouldnt want a government run healthscheme..

It's not so much about the provider; more about what the employer wants in a scheme and is willing to pay for.
If you aren't happy with an employer scheme, you would have to take out your own seperate cover. It is highly unlikely that an employer sponsored scheme would allow separate terms for just one member.
