Has the rift started?
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain announced Wednesday the withdrawal of their ambassadors from Qatar because Doha had not implemented an agreement among Gulf Arab countries not to interfere in each others' internal affairs.
http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/05/wo...r-ambassadors/ "a security agreement and a commitment to the principles that ensure non-interference in the internal affairs of any of the GCC countries, either directly or indirectly, and not to support any activity that would threaten the security and stability of any of the GCC countries from organizations or individuals, including support for hostile media." Al Jazeera is a Qatari company, and a radical departure from the typical government controlled media in the region. Check out this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_ZuXbOtBbo |
Re: Has the rift started?
Let's be honest there isn't exactly a lot of love among the gcc states anyway.
This is more about Qatar supporting the Muslim brotherhood than anything else and in true Arab fashion this will be blown out of all proportion and dummies will be spat out all over the place. I saw Qatar's ex us ambassador on Al Jazeera last night, quite a little speach he gave at one point there were accusations that whilst Saudi the UAE and Bahrain support dictatators Qatar of course did not. I have no idea how he kept a straight face during his tirade. As I say dummies will be spat and all will be at loggerheads until sufficient cash changes hands |
