Think of all the money spent organising the Hajj...money better spent on secular education, clean water programs, medicines and improving agriculture around the world.

Quite agree. And the same goes for all those spectacular Christian edifices: lead for the roof, or a well for a village in Africa?

Your previous posts also indicate that you seem to see rascism everywhere since you "are a person of colour". So am I mate - mainly pink from the Ozzie sun though but who gives a damn ?

I have no problems with Islam - one of my most treasured posessions is an English translation of the Holy Quran with a dedication from an Egyptian friend of mine I was given nearly 30 years ago.

However having lived in Saudi, I can clearly state it is the most intolerant and stunningly racist society [that being a particular hobby horse of yours] that I have ever experienced - and that was just the Saudis. Read my previous posts - I have advised young brits whose ethnic origin is Pakistan/Indian not to take jobs in Saudi because they will immediately be treated as 2nd class citizens due to their ethnicity despite they are as British as the next man.

Or are you going to resort to foul language like you did with a previous respondent on another topic ?

Indeed. For cultural reasons I don't mind the ancient churches and buildings but I have little time for money spent on crap like that these days...it's immoral really when you think about it.

Cash for popes visits, mosques, churches etc when people need education, better governance and cleaner energy....and beer for Scotsmen of course

Quit misrepresenting me. I'm not sure whether or not the Ozzie sun has also tampered with your reading comprehension ability, but if you did carefully read my posts you would see I was the person of color saying that I did not experience racism in the gulf. I'm not sure how you took that to mean that I "see racism everywhere".

And I am quite familiar with British humor, as I've lived in the UK for ten years in the past, but I've never encountered the immaturity excused as "humor" there as I have on this forum. Even other members, British by birth, have pointed out how rude and infantile those remarks were.

Furthermore, Saudi society is just like every other human society. There's the good and the ugly. Just because there's some racism exhibited by a segment of the population doesn't give you the right to make the claim that the whole of Arabia is racist and inhospitable to British citizens of color. Does the fact that the EDL gets to publically attack British citizens of Muslim origin or the fact that the BNP has two seats in the European parliament make it ok to label all of Britain a "stunningly racist" country? No. It's a crude generalization.

And no, I won't curse at you, but I will tell you to grow up.

The pilgrimage has been going on for the past 1400 years. It's a way of Muslims of all races and creeds to come together and strengthen the bonds of friendship and brotherhood. Look up the studies showing how the hajj reduces racism, such as the case with Malcolm X.

I'm pretty sure that the revenue the Hajj brings in is much much larger than the cost to the Saudi government to organise it. Largely as much of the infrastructure supporting it is already there e.g hostels, hotels, camp sites. And this infrastructure does not need to be rebuilt on a yearly basis.

Besides if hospitals, schools, libraries etc are not up to standard, then that's not because of the Hajj. The Saudi government could easily afford to deal with those things, as well as the other internal issues of poverty and health care if it wanted to, but that's a whole separate issue.

You can't really blame the Hajj for poverty and illiteracy!

Bingo - I've finally worked it out. Has the Saudi government paid you to post here to convert all us infidels/unbelievers ?

As for "Muslims of all races and creeds" - Nope, sorry in Saudi there is only one creed - Wahhabi. Anything else gets exterminated or surpressed.

Whats said is that these millions of Muslim South Asians and South East Asians don't open their eyes and realize how they are just worshiping Arabs, even while they are treated like crap by Arabs. Thats the brainwashing power and societal pressure of Religion.
