Guns in UAE
As many of you may or may not know, there's a big hunting exhibition going on down at ADNEC at the moment.
From 7days
15 mins!!!!!!!!
Expect a big gun problem coming soon....
From 7days
The show is divided in two – one section for the falcons, crafts, food and traditional Emirati hunting exhibits, while the other section, for over-16s only, displays the huge cache of sniper rifles, machine guns, hand guns and bow weapons on sale to hunters and military staff.
At the giant stand for UAE gun company Tawazun salesperson Ali says that there is a good mix of private and military customers for the giant sniper rifles on offer, which were selling for about Dhs80,000 dirhams each.
And there was no problem getting a gun licence for UAE citizens looking to buy weapons. The government unveiled a new stand where Emiratis without a criminal record can get approval for a licence in 15 minutes.
“These weapons are beautiful but I am happy to just get a handgun,” said Sultan Altamimi, an Emirati who was on the market for his first gun. “Really, I would like one just for protection, I do not need such a big gun. There is not any big buffalo running into my house!”

There's some more in here:

Not least "The speed of granting permits beats most pro-gun US states, where approval takes at least 24 hours."
Woohoo, UAE, best at everything.

"a good mix of private and military customers for the giant sniper rifles"
I can't think of a single good reason why such weapons should be sold to private customers.

Re: Guns in UAE
Apparently 50% of guns are used for recreational hunting and the other 50% for family protection. Against what? Other Emiratis with guns, presumably...or simply for discharging at weddings. Just waiting for the next multiple shooting fatalities here in the UAE.

Hunting what? The UAE isn't exactly overrun with rabbits, grouse or deer.
Sadly I bet we hear about childre being shot as guns will be kept in the home, not in a secure place there either, and brought out to show off the friends.

Seriously though, I do find this quite concerning.
As someone mentioned, it's only a matter of time before one of their kids gets hold of one of these weapons then goodness knows what could happen..
In fact, goodness knows what could happen with the adults having the guns too!

Anyway, I'm going to guess that this is just legitimizing already widespread gun ownership.

Re: Guns in UAE
We used to have shotguns at home for shooting weekends and clay pigeon days. They were in a gun cabinet (safe) which was key and combination and I never knew either the code or where the key was.
It can be done safely but here, will it? Who know's.
