Wasn't the GCC resident rate already 5 OMR for 28 days? It's good news for those travelling from further afield though.

That is good news. Having brought half a dozen visiting family members around different bits of Oman on various trips in the last 6 months, can I request a refund? Still I did not understand why they jacked that fee up a few years ago as there is still lots of unexploited potential from people visiting UAE to do land crossings. Oman is full of amazing things to see and do. That is probably the thing I will miss most when I leave the UAE shortly in fact. Anyway, good to know that I will be able to visit for less when I drop by in future....

I'm not sure it's exactly good news because of the destination, but Saudi has recently cut rates significantly for visitor visas. I wonder if the motivations are the same...

And actually there are quite a few potentially very interesting places to visit in the Kingdom.

Lots of places in the HUGE territory of Saudi Arabia that outsiders have not discovered. I was privileged to work for the Airline in Jeddah at the Training Center. I had visits to most of the airports in the Kingdom. has anyone else ever been to Sharura in The Empty Quarter ?
