Got my first DEWA bill....
For an approximate six week period (mid August through September) the bill, not inclusive of the housing fee, came to...
tah de dah.... 55.85 AED. Not bad, eh? I'm fairly chuffed. |
Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
That compares favourably with my Dhs1,525 for four weeks. Mind you, I did leave the girls alone for a week so I guess they had the air-conditioning switched to refrigeration level in my absence.:)

Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
My first ADDC (6 weeks) was 0.00, swiftly followed by one for 1,255, don"t get your hopes up!

Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
Here's the set-up:
Small 1-bed apartment in the Greens. Approximately 750 square feet. Entire building is centrally cooled. Landlord pays for this as part of maintenance charges. I just pay for the actual electric usage. Due to building being centrally cooled enough cool air comes from the corridors and surrounding flats for me to not have to turn on the AC in my apartment. Even during the hottest days of August the room temperature was a steady 26 degrees. Only at nights did I turn on the AC in the bedroom, down to 24C. Never leave lights on. Never leave the hot water switch on except for ten minutes before I shower/wash the dishes. Never use the dishwasher. Use the cooker approximately twice a week - if that. Currently have no TV, which is a major consumption of electricity. So I think it's fairly reasonable to assume my charges aren't going to substantially increase, especially as I'll be using less AC at night in a few weeks. |
Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
DEWA includes water, so you may also need to control how many showers you take and how often you flush the loo.:D

Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
we're the same - Mr Kitty went down to DEWA today to find out why we hadn't had any bills in a year and to our great surprise it turns out that on average, for the last 13 months, our actual DEWA has been around 80 AED per month for a 2 bed... ofc, the housing fee smacks another 400 or so on each month, but hey.
Well impressed! |
Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
I spent 8 months in a studio in JLT and it was around 60AED a month, every month. I've now moved to a one bed (still in JLT and same building infact) and its been 80AED a month for last 2 months. I leave A/C on 24/7, TV is hardly ever on, table lamp or standard lamp most nights and washing machine twice a week. Maybe the older properties are less eco-friendly?

Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
In the Marina, still only pay 190 DHS/month for DEWA but - as yet - no housing fee, which is expected to start January 2011..

Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
Whilst living in Int City, I was paying about 500 a month, but moved to the Greens, similar apartment and after 4 months no bill. Went down there, gave them all the details again (they'd been sending the bill to Emaar!) and total was 370dhm. Needless to say 4 months later, I still haven't received a bill!

Take your rental contract along and they'll adjust the housing fee to suit too. |

beware - we didn't get a bill for the past year, despite registering and having the new connection made. Turns out there was a balls-up (surprise surprise) and they had still somehow got it in the previous tenant's name and they just weren't sending them out. All the meter readings are correct, but the bill has now been fudged beyond recognition to get it to tally.

Re: Got my first DEWA bill....
It depends entirely on where you live.
Those of us with very low bills live in flats, and flats that aren't part of district cooling. People in villas have much higher Dewa bills. A friend of mine with a standard villa in the Meadows paid 16,000 AED in Dewa over four months. Not cheap. Everyone in Dubai is now required to pay a housing tax that is 5% of the annual rent.

Four of us in the house, downstairs AC on most of the time (set at 26), upstairs AC only at night (also set at 26). A TV and a big desktop PC on all day. Kitchen lights on all day for some reason. billing period 3rd Sep-26th Sep drum roll... 1011.40 fils. No idea if this includes the housing fee as I don't have the bill in front of me - I'd guess not. |
