haha, thanks.

How did u know which school I was talking about?

I applied to the GEMS online database, do I wait for them to get in touch if there is a suitable position?

VESS is the main school in Sharjah and they were advertising recently, it was a logical guess! yes wait and see if GEMS contact you, there is alot of movement this time of year ;)

Thanks Black Cat... ur logical guessing is good :)

The sun is finally out in Cardiff... woohoooo unlike the non-stop sunshine u lucky guys get in Dubai!

Last few days of my easter hols then back in work next week (huge sigh!)

On the GEMS website... there are job vacancys but the deadline was back in december.. they don't update it regularly it appears. Do GEMS always offer good packages?

ooh the black cats are Sunderland people!!!

GEMS - I live in one the buildings that has the GEMs teachers in it. It is only just over a year old, all the singlies get a 1 bed, fully paid for and the marrieds a two beds. I hear from the girls here that there pay isn't bad so I can only repeat what they are saying. Teaching isn't highly paid here but if you can get an apartment and all the other guff then you can have a good life. What age group do you teach again?

I've taught years 2, 3,4 and am currently in Yr6, so virtually both key stages :)

Yes GEMS sounds good but I have gotta wait to see if they like my online application form.

You're a Geordie fan I see.... good result on the weekend. I'm a MAN U fan :) No abuse now please! Its a shame the geordies arent doing too well as u have a good bunch of players. Maybe next season hey.

But with accommodation and utilities - so the total is around 11,000.

Shazia, if you're highly qualified and experienced I would ask for double that, at the very minimum.

I lived with my parents and was hired locally so I didn't get a housing allowance etc, but still managed to blow 8 grand a month ;) those were the days :)

Thanks for your advice.... I havent been offered the job but been told this is the package we will offer in September. Will they normally compromise or is it normally this is what we are offering, take it or leave it?

I dont want to be in the situation where I turn down an offer in the hope id get a better one and then find myself with nothing :frown: Though I do think my skills and experience warrants more than what they are offering me.

I guess you're right.

Yes, you can negotiate. Don't short-sell your self. If you are highly skilled and experienced then let them pay you what you deserve and in line with the market
