Default Good news from KSA

This forum is very quick to bash KSA, we should equally applaud:

Saudi King Revokes Lashing Punishment For Woman Driver

which follows on from: "Billionaire Investor Alwaleed Opposes Decision To Lash A Saudi Woman Driver"

Quite interesting to read Princess Ameerah's twitter feed also: http://twitter.com/#!/AmeerahAltaweel

We westerners are an impatient lot, but the pace of change in this part of the world, including KSA, is genuinely remarkable.

What about the news that American intelligence has recently uncovered evidence of a plot by terrorists to kidnap westerners in Riyadh?

Had a good chat to some Saudis last night at a party. They were bigging up King A and also mentioned his second son (name escapes me - we were all half cut) in a positive light.

As for Princess Ameerah

To appease the Whahabi clerics, they decided if they couldn't thrash the woman for driving the car, they would do the next best thing...

Err... so what? There are plots in the UK by extreme republican dissidents to assassinate the royal family. Bradd Pitt has just hired a couple of ex-SAS guys to protect his family in the south of France as there are Russian and Italian mafia criminals who kidnap and ransom there.

Does a leopard change its spots? No, so we will continue to bash the Saudis. I would never go back there for all the tea in China.

+1
Especially considering how strong the opposition to change really is.
