Is Gilding a dying trade ?
I have been a Gilder / Restorer for all my working life, I have worked on some wonderful projects in the past, Windsor castle, Mansion House, Cafe Royal, Hyde park Hotel , and lots of Furniture Gilding / Restoring.
Is it a thing of the past ? as we seem to live in a through away society.

no, I don't think it's dead, but it's become much more of a niche market. I think restoration will be pretty much it, but maybe also art-work (de gustibus and all that) and bespoke furniture. Some people love the thought of having something unique.
My parents were looking for a gilder in France to restore the frames of some huge old mirrors... probably still are.
