Gifts from Saudi to take back
Anybody got any ideas for small, lightweight, affordable items to take back to UK as gifts?
Eating-wise, perhaps dates - leakage in transit?
Ornaments?
Any suggested stores in Khobar?
Thanks

Great place called Desert Designs in Khobar - traditional Saudi ornamental things for the house of all shapes and sizes - excellent gift place. They have a travelling shop that does the round at compounds here in Riyadh and does really well - my Mrs cant keep away.
Dates don't leak in your bag, especially if you buy the standard dry dates and the shop will usually wrap the box in cling film.
And if you fancy it - an Abaya

What about one of those vivid pink or fluorescent green mosque clocks?

if you want Saudi bling, head to Gazzaz on Corniche. They have a huge malachite and mother of pearl reproduction of Neuchwestein Castle just inside the entrance to set the scene.... kitsch squared.
I've not seen anything better than Desert Designs which you'll find on Google Maps if you search Khobar for it. But there are also some traditional shops down in the basement souq of Al Rashid mall and on Prince Mohammed St between 1st and 2nd cross in downtown Khobar.

Oliver
Do you know the price of, say, a gold sovereign in Mid-East, then what you get in UK at a jeweller?
