Vigilating? What's that then?

“All international schools charge fees for board examinations separate to the main fees. At the Westminster School it is a charge of Dh475 per exam, per student, which is far cheaper than those charged by the British Council,” school principal Neville Sherman said in a statement.
“This fee has not been increased since September 2009… These fees are primarily used to pay the examination boards who charge for the papers, marking them, tabulating the results and doing any rechecks we ask them to do. We also pay teachers for vigilating the exams.”

Not sure why you are surprised.
They own their entires supply chain and have recently been trying to acquire someone to head up a construction business so they can build their own schools too.
Wouldn't surprise me if they part owned the exam boards they used.
Their business model is so simple;
1. Charge parents for XYZ
2. Put money in left hand pocket
3. Pay supplier for services the parents paid for
4. To complete step 3, move money from left hand pocket to right hand pocket.
5. Repeat.

'vigilating' is a very old term that is rarely used anymore - more commonly used these days is 'invigilating'......... both mean 'to monitor'....... what the people in the exam room are doing!

Let's not stop at a bit of vigilation.
Separate to? Its the same as the "different than" issue: surely its not that difficult to remember and apply same as, different from, similar to and bigger than, is it? In this case same as and separate from.
Charge...cheaper than. That's the same as a price being cheaper than..., which is nonsense. Charges, prices, fees and the like are lower (or higher) than, its the product or service which is cheaper or more expensive. And this from the frigging principal. Mind you, he's only the school principal, not even the School Principal.
Far cheaper than those charged... And what is the subject of that clause, Sherman? Speak up boy. Well? Yes, the subject is "a charge", so why have you used "those" which denotes a plural subject? Do be more careful in future. After all, you are an educator, boy.
