What do you think? Would you be interested. I think 25 years in the GCC (even the UAE) is a very very long time to wait for the right to a permanent second class (non)citizen.

I wouldn't be interested because I won't be here that long. But for some people it makes sense...I think 25 years is too long just for a perminant residency though - in reality I think anyone who has working in the country for 10 years and has no criminal record etc should be permitted longer residence visas outside the usual sponsorship system - say 5 or 10 years.

They can always revoke it if people misbehave - it's not like they are giving away passports like we do in the UK.

Personally, I think it's too long also. Like Norm_UK said - it's not like they're waiting to be handed a passport, so they can collect the massive amount of benefits on offer... (oh wait, that's here in the UK)!

It could happen!! I find time flies by here, hell it's already Thursday again tomorrow, and only seems the week has just started!

Into my 25th year. Not sure I will get an open ended visa though.............
