Flying out to live in Abu Dhabi on thursday!!!

Hey everyone
Just finished work yesterday, so am currently packing my bags, ready to fly to Abu Dhabi on thursday.... Have posted on here b4 about wheres good 2 go, so will be out exploring shops & beaches as soon as i get a day off!!! So, if u see a random blonde looking lost, it'll probably be me...
Will be working at Abu Dhabi Health & Fitness Club, so if anyone is a member there, I look forward to meeting you!!!
If anyone else in the UK tells me I'm gonna be sold in exchange for a camel, I will probably explode...
Looking forward to escaping from the British summer, which seems to be the same as the winter, rain & general grey nothingness....

I do believe that the Hilton hotel has a great club with a really good band, but it has been a while since I was there. If you want to make a trip to experience the nightlife in Dubai let us know xx:)
Don't be offended if somebody offers you camels, they are worth a lot of money, if they are racing ones anyway!:D

ADHFC is a nice place - currently undergoing some renovation. Bar/ Restaurant scene lacks the 'depth' of Dubai, but has some nice options, mainly within hotels. Hemingways (Hilton), the Traders' Vic (Beach Rotana) and Sax (Royal Meridien) are good places to spend a night out. Shopping is picking up with AD mall and Marina Mall as the main western-style outfits. There is a good 'settling in' in AD guide which was recently updated. Need to look up the title but it's available around town.
Have a good trip over and feel free to PM if you need more insight - recently came over as well, hence may have some leads.
Thanks

In addition to the mentioned, the other Le Meriden (not Royal) has several different bars and restaurants, probably the most clustered in any one hotel I would say, all centered around a garden. Well worth a visit. Additional to the above mentioned Trader Vics, the Beach Rotana has an excellent steakhouse, a very good Italian and a great German restaurant (where you can get your fix of the forbidden pork)!

I found that Abu Dhabi does get very small very quickly if you like nights out; not to worry though, the relevant parts of Dubai can be reached within max an hour and a half when you fancy a weekend away.

Finally, as a "random blonde", I'd keep in mind that Abu Dhabi is a little bit "Bloke Central" i.e, its full of single (or unaccompanied) western oil contractor blokes (myself in that category), Indian and Pakistani worker blokes, and plenty of local blokes. Nottingham with its 7:1 ratio, of women to men, it ain't! More like 1:20 the other way!

I have to say, (if you are a single woman) it does seem an odd choice - let us know how you get on!

However, good luck with your new job!

The dress code for women seems relaxed over here! Saw a man yesterday in his late 50's out with his daughter and she was wearing a tight mini skirt and a very low cut top with a zip that she kept pulling down low. Dont think she lived here just visiting him as he kept taking photos of her.
