Default Fire Regs. for furniture made/sold in Dubai?

Does anyone know whether there are any regulation for using fire resistant materials in upholstered furniture made in Dubai or sold here as in UK? I had 2 sofas made in Dubai and as I am selling a property here am considering shipping them to London but don't think they will comply with UK Regs. and they do not have the tags on them like you get in UK.
This seems to be the case for beds, headboards etc.Thanks.

So is that a "NO"? Do you know/are you informed on this matter? With all the fires in high rises one would "think" there was some regulations.

Many materials and wood are likely to burn.

if your taking in your personal effects, I'd be very surprised if they had to confirm to the same standards as ones sold retail in the UK.

They cannot even pass effective regulation on the materials the buildings are made from.

I doubt some cheap furniture sold expensively will be certified - and by who anyway? UK/EU?!

There is nothing to stop you taking an unapproved sofa to the UK - unless you are planning on selling it. I'd be nervous about putting it in rented (out) accommodation. But if it's just for you, then fill your boots.

Precisely. I took some untagged furniture back to uk -- couldn't sell it, and was actually a bit nervous about having it in my own home (the regulations are there for a reason), so ended up tipping it.

If I was in that position again: if it had soft filling / covering, I wouldn't consider taking it home; no soft filling / covering, I'd consider it.

Why? They don't suddenly burst into flames on arrival in the UK. If you lived with it for so long here, why not there?

If it's from IKEA or homecenter (i.e proper global supply chains) it'll probably be OK - dunno about the other places though.

What is the second hand furniture market like in Dubai? Surprised to be selling my flat quite quickly after all but buyer has his own furniture.

Because in the event of a fire they'd be likely to contribute to it, and there was bugger-all choice when I bought them in UAE. Also, to some extent the risk of a fire starting inside my apartment in UAE was low: primarily inflammable hard surfaces, no gas, few electrical goods, no "kids" leaving their laptops plugged in on their beds while they go out for the night... Home: lots of wood, carpet, curtains, gas, electrical gadgets, extensive wiring. Plus it was my family's safety at risk, not just mine: different rules apply.

Yeah, but if the building is on fire the sofa's ability to take light isn't of that great concern. It will burn regardless.

Ah - but some fires START when drunks that smoke drop their fags on the chairs/sofas etc. - that's the whole point of fire retardant upholstery fabric - get it?

Doesn't that risk also happen in Dubai?

I get BB's point about different risk profile when kids/ family are around. But that aside, the risk of the sofa and the fag hasn't change. I still don't smoke.

I can imagine there are millions of UK houses with 20 year old sofas all waiting to kill their owners.
