fines published
email from our HR:
We have confirmed that the attached Traffic Fines and Black Points are the ones that have been implemented effective March 1, 2008. Please note that undercover police personnel have the authority to fine violators if they see them committing a traffic offence (In absentia). Violators will simply receive a traffic fine either in the mail or when they renew their vehicle registration. There will not be much recourse in challenging such fines. Many of the items on the list have always been traffic violations but the police never issued fines for them in the past. This has changed and we have seen proof of that. Though the list puts the fine for driving under the influence as decided by the court, the fine has been set at AED 20,000 with a possibility of a jail term.

Our drivers at work have been warned to wear seatbelts as apparently the police are really looking out for that at the moment.

A quality moment from my Lebanese co worker yesterday, we were discussing the new fines and he was miffed at having to wear a seatbelt. After pointing out it was a life safety feature, he said that as he was usually driving at 60-70km/hour, he would be "okay" in the event of an accident.

Re: fines published
How do they expect us to make out in the car if they dont want our cars to be tinted?!?
This does not make any sense!
