Ferry to Iran?

Ferry to Iran?
Folks,
Anyone know if there is a ferry service (RORO type, with vehicles ) to Iran? I'm sure I read somewhere there was one from UAE, but would contemplate one from either UAE / Qatar / Kuwait.
All part and parcel of planning the road trip back to Blighty at some point next year. Thinking of Iran to Turkey as an alternative route, but feel a bit twitchy about venturing into Iraq. Can see the headlines on Sky News and picturing myself in an orange jumpsuit....

Re: Ferry to Iran?
No advice on ferry.
But Iran to Turkey should be feasible without going through Iraq?
Edit: oh, you mean getting to Iran to start with, without having to drive through Iraq?
That I cannot help either. So completely disregard my utterly useless and unhelpful post.

A dutch guy was a partner in this (for the life of me I cant remember his details!) but then his wife became ill with cancer
Perhaps this will help

Aye - meant getting to Iran to start with - want to avoid going through Iraq. :-) Should be simple enough to make it a straight journey through to eastern Turkey.

Maybe worth looking at it a different way and not looking for a ferry (as there will be little in the way of demand) but just looking for a RORO facility and a cargo company that makes that trip and see if they would take you over. As long as you present yourself at customs then you should be OK.
I know SAQR Port has RORO facilities but not sure if they are used much.

Re: Ferry to Iran?
People are regularly travelling back to Europe using the ferry which sails from Sharjah to Banadar Abass. Have a look at this link:
Bandar Abbas - Sharjah ferry | Caravanistan
I first did the journey in 1998 on my motorbike and 4 people I know did it earleir this year.

UK Nationals can only get a Visa for Iran as part of an escorted Package Tour;
Currently UK, USA and Canadian passport holders are not able to obtain independent travel visas for Iran. To secure a visa, above mentioned passport holders need to travel as part of an escorted tour group, or have an ‘official’ guide (this means not Iranian friends or work colleagues) during their entire stay in Iran. The itinerary needs to be pre-arranged, hotels pre-booked and paid for in advance.
I do not know if this will impact on your plans, but if you were planning on driving through Iran it might unless you can get an independent travel company there to process an Itinerary that will satisfy the above stipulation!

May be it was because I included a link? Any way, just google 'ferry sharjah to bandar abbas' and have a look at the caravanistan link for all the information.

Re: Ferry to Iran?
Knew I definitely needed a visa in advance and that I needed a tour guide - but wasn't aware of exactly how detailed the itinerary had to be. Still considering the Iran through to Turkey, but have a couple of other routes as well. Will have to look into it in more detail. Cheers.
