Default Family Accomodation nr. Festival City

I have just been offered a 2 year contract working at Festival City for a great firm of Architects, starting mid-August. We will be put up in an apartment for a while, but are keen to start investigating different areas to rent. We would be more than happy with a compound type villa with shared pool.

We were in Dubai last week, but due to looking at schools, job interviews, and agents not turning up we never got to look at any property. It is looking that our daughter should be able to get a place at DESS which is towards Bur Dubai. So we need something under 200,000 dhs / year, which is handy for:

> Festival City
> Dubai English Speaking School
> A good nursery for our youngest
> Media City / Marina as my better half is looking to work for one of the ad agencies there.

Mirdiff looks good, but might be a proper head-ache getting to/from school.

Al Safa / Satwa
- I have seen villas advertised for under 200K, would they be any good?
Arabian Ranches - further out, but hopefully an easy drive.

The other option is to rethink the school, and start again, but we would be really happy with DESS. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

DESS is a great school, stick with it. Satwa for less than 200K, wouldn't advise it might end up being pulled down and there is nothing in Safa with a price tag less than 200k.

I was supposed to look around this on Sunday but after waiting for an hour outside Spinneys in my suit, the guy never turned up. :curse:

Is 185,000dhs realistic for a 3 bed in Al Safa? I got him to confirm the price when I spoke to him on the phone.

Unfortunately I am back in the UK for a few weeks now ... grrrrr, I doubt he will wait.

I have seen a few in Satwa at 200k a year. Maybe it would be worth taking one and pocketing the compensation if it is due to be demolished.

Mirdiff is pretty handy for DESS and Festival City just get onto Business Bay Bridge off at Al Jadaf and its only a couple of minutes from there. Definately stick with the school its great - my daughter has almost completed year 6 there with great results.

Arabian Ranches would probably be about halfway between Media City/School/Festival City but about a 30 min drive to school in the morning would be my guess.

We LOVED the school when we went round, and it was a major factor when deciding to go for the position at Festival city.

Obviously we cannot start looking until we return to Dubai, but I think we already will need to start narowing down our search on areas to prevent us becoming totally overphased with the whole thing.

Any tips on 'secret' areas would be greatly appreciated.

be very careful with anywhere in Al safa. the redevelopment of Satwa goes down at least as far as the Park'n'shop store which is in Al Safa.

you may end up paying 12 months rent in advance for a property which has already had an eviction notice.

Is that MM?
Mirdiff is probably your best bet for getting to work with ease

you would not get any compensation. The owner would and then you would have a fight to recover the rent you've paid in advance.
