Default Expatriate hamster

Anyone had experience of bringing a pet hamster to the UAE?

I know friends have brought dogs, and hamsters are considerably smaller so surely easier?

If you have problems getting approval from the authorities, you could always smuggle it in via the felch method...

oh no you dont go to the pet souq.... stay well away. all the animals there arent the "best", at easter a few years ago they used to colour the chicks multicolours to encourage people to buy them, does that still go on, i dont go down that end of town.

probably yes... the array of animals is amazing, honestly they did have monkeys there. Don't go there on a full stomach though, it's grim.

Fatoush, our hamster, is alive and well nearly a year on and is even on a second bag of food.

In Doha I came across a pink bunny rabbit and multi-coloured chicks, ( my stay there was random from the point I was told I couldn't fly into the UK because of a volcano!) was so cute but can just imagine the owners get bored when they turn into normal coloured animals, I was very tempted to buy them all and free them, would have been like something out of tellytubbies!

Just out of curiosity whats the cost of moving a hamster out here compared to a cat or dog? and do they have a little pet passport?

Given that a hamster costs a fiver and lasts 18months, I really can't see the point of exporting one...

exactly, insane! In all fairness it could last longer than 18 months, my lad won a goldfish at the fair in London when he was a tot and that little ****** lasted years, no one could believe it lasted so long, it was white by the time it passed (RIP Fishy) and was blind, it kept on bashing into the side of the tank. When we moved here he was nearly 8 and he wanted to bring it here!
