Etisalat is facing fierce criticism and according to a poll more than half of Etisalat’s BlackBerry customers are planning to ditch the UAE telecoms provider following the spyware scandal...

Most Blackberry users I know receive them from their employers, in which case they have little or no influence in choosing a telcom. Another factor to consider is Du's poor reception.

We're not exactly spoiled for choice!!

In the sense that du's primarily owned by the Federal Government and and Emirate owned investment bodies. it's got a very similar ownership structure to etislalat, but one doesn't overlap with the other.

So both are, in essence, the govt?

Reminds me of American car makers.

I could be wrong, but yeah I think so, I think Du are just a small offshoot of Etisalat.

Re: Etisalat Spyware Scandal

"The Ministry of Finance and Industry MoF and the Emirates Investment Authority EIA hold shares both in Du and its competitor, Etisalat, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation
Other Du shareholders are the Mubadala Development Company and the Emirates Communications and Technology Company, a TECOM InvestmentsTECOM Investments subsidiary. "
from zawya

Etisalat is 60% owned by the govt, I believe that they also hold shares in du via a bit of shadow company trickery, unfortunately that data is now subscription only on zawya
