Just curious after the news about Egypt, if any folks living in the middle east are concerned around whats going on there?

It's going to cause me some problems yes. Our office (45 people - and at capacity) now has to accommodate 150-200 Egyptian "refuges" as we close our Cairo office. There will be a queue for the coffee machine in the morning

I believe we have some Egyptian co-workers at my place of employment. I'm not sure how this will affect them. If this were happening back home I'd be on a plane by now. But everyone and every culture has it's own mindset. I'm currently on holiday, so I won't know until I return.

There's a huge and enormous (read, huge and enormous) difference between the Mediterranean Middle East and the Gulf. It might as well be thousands of miles apart.

To answer your question, most western expats in Dubai, if they are even aware of what's going on in Egypt, do not feel one iota bit less secure.

To be honest, it's impacting me quite a bit. I know it sounds shallow, but a lot of the magazine this month had to be written off because it was about Egypt investing in its IT sector.

On a serious note though, I'm slightly worried for one of Google's Mid East execs who I've met a couple of times now. He was in Egypt, and hasn't been heard from for a couple of days now. Fingers crossed he's okay though.

It already has affected me, I didn't get paid! My payroll and H.R Dept are in Cairo. Had to take a local cheque instead so all good now.

It already is spreading across the Middle East but I don't believe it will ever reach here, too passive. For Emiratis to protest about anything would mean getting out of their 4x4s - not going to happen. Unless they have a horn sounding protest?

Well, that sounds promising. I cannot see that Mubarak is going to back down any further unless the army revolts against him. Hopefully, it will all die down now atleast until the new elections, although it would have been a nice gesture for the president to have brought them forward by a few months.

Internet definately restored: extract form email I just received from the American manager of the hotel I "lived" in:

"Internet services returned to Cairo just about an hour ago with BlackBerry services coming back in the last few minutes....."
