Is the Cecil Hotel still going? I'm convinced I closed down its casino.
the fish restaurant is Sea Gull and it is still open for business they attached a small petting zoo & a children's play area. Cecil is still open but no casino guess you did shut it down lol.
my favourite thing was walking along the corniche and looking at the old buildings inspired by the greek architecture. hanging out at The Portuguese club and out running on the hash every friday.
Pashtun has to check the portuguese club it is still open and it is a great place to meet other foreigners.

Yes that is true. smallest you'll find is 2 bedrooms. which university are you attending? AAST has the nicest cleanest dorms.

Hi Mariah I will be attending the University of Alexandria - they have offered me accommodation, but they are ripping me off. They want to charge me 600 Pounds (UK Pounds) per month for a room on campus. This is why I am looking elsewhere

that is a rip off. but so are the fees. they are charging you in pounds as well right? i remember when i enrolled and they gave me the fees i was like "what you expect me to build a new wing or something?"
yr problem is that University of Alexandria is in downtown which is mostly old buildings with huge apartments with high ceilings, smallest thing you'll find is a 2 bedroom apartment.
and when you are looking at ads make sure they state "furnished".
good luck it is gonna be hard finding something.

Long time since anyone has posted in this, but just sorted a job in Alex from September (very excited) and am wondering about the best places to live.

I've been told I need to be near the Portuguesa club and should be spending around 3000 Egyptian pounds a month for a niceish apartment... any advice or anything I need to know about Alex greatly appreciated.

I am from Alex but living in England. The Portuguesa club is in Kafr Abdou, which is very nice quite area and classified as area of rich Alexandrians. The UK consulate is located in there. So the rent is quite high than other areas. Still the areas around like Bokla, Stanley, Louran, Zizinya and San Stifano are consider safe and clean but rent may be vary depend on location and type of the building. Also the people who are living there have got good jobs with good money. I don't know where is your work will be? With family or alone? But my advise is to stick to the areas near the sea side up to Abou Qir road or Tram road way or the area where is Consulates in the downtown I mean Elfra'ana area behind the medicine college. As long as you will go south far off the sea side as long as cheaper rent and low standard of people and areas surronding except the south of downtown and Smouha suburb.
