Default Ebay in Dubai!

Hello chaps!

I've finally accepted a teaching post in Festival city...I am very excited!!

My boyfriend is in Dubai now being interviewed (he is in real estate), and its going very well....so everything is working out the way we'd hoped.

Im on Easter holidays and ebaying my life it seems in preparation for my move....just wondering is ebay used to buy and sell in Dubai?

Also some teachers have said they just took 3 or 4 packed suitcases instead of shipping boxes....All I have is one or 2 large items (pictures) and the rest will just be teaching materials and clothes.....the school pay for up to £300 worth of shipping/baggage allowance.

Any thoughtS?

There's an eBay equivalent in Dubai called souq.com. Nothing stopping you keeping on using normal eBay of course.

if you can get away with not having to ship stuff, then it will be much easier for you...shipping obviously takes time...

of course, your company (i hope you negotiated this) will repatriate you to your country of origin on completion of your tenure here....

Therefore they should pay for shipping of effects...

oh, nae luck..i had it included into my contract as 'relocation allowance' I dont think it is too expensive for a container (or part) to ship your stuff back thou..

Or if you have a friend or collegue that you trust who is shipping stuff back at the same time and has some space?

yeah we'll probably do it all ourselves at once, I'm sure in a few years we'll have a stack of stuff to send back.

These days, many companies don't pay any kind of relocation (in either direction) other than a one-way plane ticket into Dubai for the person they're employing. It's just the way it is here now. So in many respects, you're lucky to have got a paid ticket home when you finally decide to leave

We're lucky in that we came out here with a media company that not only paid for plane tickets for both Suzanne and myself, they paid Suzanne's visa costs too (again, lots of companies won't pay for family members any more) and gave us a modest relocation allowance (virtually unheard-of in media companies).

yup, I get a ticket here and back and 1 week in a hotel, although my wife, who is on the same money as me but in a management role gets the tickets, a dir 20,000 relocation package and 60 days in a hotel.

If she hadn't got that hotel deal god knows what we would have done, 1 week in a hotel??

this proves alas how out of touch ( or lucky) i actually am. I thought relocation was standard...

I cant belive that a company would make me pay to sponsor my wife and kid...

bollox to that....time to go home..
