Is it easy to come out in Riyadh?
Hey,
its been a couple of weeks since i got to Riyadh SA. Staying here for four months.
Life here is confusing.. I dont know which people i should get with, especially that ive been warned so many times about how critical it is to out yourself!
Is there a normal gay scene in this city?
Please help!!

whilst i am certain there will be a gay scene in riyadh it almost certainly wont be normal. Homosexuality is illegal in saudi and probably carries the death penalty in the kingdom of doom.

My thoughts exactly.....
How and ever there does seem to be an increasing number of people who
move lock, stock and barrel to pastures new then decide to do their research - albeit vicariously.
Now I am as impulsive and as gung ho as the next one but when it comes to life changing decisions surely the heads up on a place is a must?

Seriously, be very, very, very, very careful. There is something of a gay scene in Riyadh but for obvious reasons it's very closed. Unless you speak Arabic and get lucky, as an expat I'd be surprised if you can crack it at all.

I did hear of one incident where an expat had a local boyfriend, however he spent 3 months in hospital after breaking his legs jumping from a 2nd floor apartment to escape his lovers family.
Was deported soon after.
