EADS/Mubadallah JV for aircraft composites

Anyone know anything about "Strata" - the new aero composites plant? Are they really ready to cut turf, who is the principle contractor for the build? How sound is the project?

Any info much appreciated....

I drove past the project on the Al Ain/Sweihan road (just outside Al Ain) about two months ago. The sign boards suggested an "aerospace industrial zone" - is this the one perhaps?

Yes, that would be the one. Reading between the lines, Mubadala have stepped in where Dubai Aerospace seem to have failed... it would appear that the composites plant project is being structured along similar lines to Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding (which is, actually, quite a reasonable venture, and also under the auspices of Shk Mo of AD).

Yes, the project is alive. They are setting up offices here in Al Ain next week.
The 4 gentlemen that are the senior management team consist of an IT Manager, Procurement and Purchasing Mgr, Operations Mgr, & Quality Control Mgr with HSE under his belt. One is my neighbor and the other 3 we have become good friends with as we are helping with their orientation into Al Ain and finding housing. The ground breaking ceremony was set for June 29th but was pushed back until end of August. Strata is a division of Mubadala and will be a plant for Airbus parts with contracts pending with other airline manufacturers. They are subbing out alot of the work. Other folks working with Strata are here and in place. They are employed by a sub contractor from Austria.

The guys pointed it out to me from the Airport Roundabout and I think its the northwest corner of the airport past Horizon. The temporary offices they are preparing this week are located near there as well in a shared building. This little airport is about to grow as well. Hubby's Chief Pilot came back home today and said they are increasing the cargo operations there. Job security! I would love to see this build into something large. It will never be like the Fed Ex hub but things are growing :)
