Question DVD & Laptop Question

Hi,

Thanks so much for your advice re: Qatar or Oman, I went for Oman in the end & I'm getting prepared to move out there next month!

Am I right in thinking that Region 2 for DVDs includes the Middle East, and therefore Region 2 DVDs I bring over should work in a DVD player I buy out there?

Also are laptops very much cheaper to buy out there than they are in the UK?

Thank you!

Hi,

Out here in the Middle East we are in Region 2 - same as UK and Western Europe. Your DVDs will work.

DVDs out here are cheaper than UK too. (Ignore the DVD lady - they are bad people )

Laptops - not 100% sure - however I would be fairly certain they are cheaper here with the no tax etc. I know most electrical goods are cheaper here than UK.

Good luck in Oman!

Most laptops are cheaper. I recently bought a whizzy new HP Notebook & when I checked it was a good £200-250 cheaper than in the UK.

Sorry to be pedantic, buts its Mac without a 'k'.

No idea if its out in the ME, but been out about a month here in the UK. THe proper title is the Macbook Air to differentiate it from the Macbook ( comes in white or black ) and the Macbook Pro (aluminuim).

Iphone is available in KSA so I presume its up for grabs in UAE too.

Macbook Air is in iStyle at Festival City. Very impressed with it, saying that I'd take any Mac over a Windows PC (pity my management don't take this view).

From what I have seen not alot of differences in cost of laptops but how do you compare eggs for eggs, however if you buy in the uk and bring one over and something goes wrong, you have the problem of getting it back under warranty and the length of time it takes, if you already have one and thought " if they are cheaper i will buy a new one" then not worth it in my opinion, same applies to say LG tv's same price here in shops I have looked at as the uk hence not worth shipping but buy one here, guess its why are you asking and under what circumstances!

You can get them in Dubai but of course they're all "grey imports", since the iPhone is not officially available anywhere in the ME yet.

I saw some in Virgin at MoE months ago, and they were asking 3500 dhs for them, which is more than double what they ought to cost.

Happily, I got mine free as a gift from the sheikh who owns our company
