Default Dubai - Schools & Nurseries etc

Hi Folks

We may soon have the possibility of moving/living in Dubai.

Our daughter is 23 months old.

In the UK she goes to nursery twice per week (social skills)

Is there such a thing in Dubai as a nursery ?
Does anyone know the average cost per day?

When she is old enough for School say 4/5

What are the approx costs per year
How does the standard compare with say an average UK primary school

Appreciate if anyone can share their experience with us.

Br

Don't know about the nursery stuff, but there's a fair few threads on schools that could get you going if you searched them out, and also some schools listed in the wiki so you could check them out too...

hiya Jimmy, sorry you made me laugh!! we all live in bedioun tents, go to work on camels, shop at souks and there is no alcohol either

Nurserys - 9000 dhs per term.

School - I have a 5 year old and her fees are 32,000 per year.

Make sure you negotiate a good package with your future employer before upping sticks and coming out here

No worries, I really posted as my wife was wondering.

I have an opportunity....

Approx 30000 Per month (would have liked more)
House 2/3 bed
Car or allowance
Private Health
x2 return flights to UK per year
They will ship all our belongings out or supply 7-8k sterling for furnishings

Think that's about it.....

I'm just wondering how well I can live on this over in Dubai?

Especially when the UK is dire for Jobs at the moment.

The most important thing is our daughters happiness and welfare and future schooling if we stay.(If they let me stay)

That's the driver.

Appreciate the comments/advice.

Also how easy once we are there as a family would it be for my wife to perhaps get a part time job ?

Jimmy, commenting on the package is difficult without knowing what you do. However, 30'000 per month plus housing and travel is not bad. Should allow you to live a reasonable life. My daughter (13) loves Dubai and doesn't want to leave. We've been here 6 years and no plans to go. Good luck!

yeah, but nursery in general isn't the same as in the uk...apart from a few, they only open in the morning, and close for school holidays etc...

What are they like in the UK?

I mean what's the difference? For a 23 month old, surely only part time care is required?

Do people pap their kids off to nursary for the whole day before they are 2

Genuine question from a father of an 17m girl who is considering options to stay here or **** aff back to civilisation.

I'd think nurseries back home are more geared towards working parents, so they will have longer opening hours and will only close on official holidays...
for parttime 'socialising' type care there are playgroups that kids go to 2 or 3 mornings a week and that will usually follow the schoolholidays...at least that's the way it is in Holland...
it's not a case of papping off your kids when both parents are working...

of course not, people who work in the uk don't tend to have nannies/maids and so they need full time care...nurseries run from 7.30 in the morning til late, though your kid can stay for a max of 11 hours or something i think...not a case of "paping" (whatever tf that is) your kids off to nursery...

geex, thank god you are such a bloody perfect parent commander...

Too bloody right, if you can't afford one partner to stay home (I'm not saying which), but if she can't stay home to care for the sprogs...don't breed!

Thanks for the compliment MM. However I'm far from a perfect parent and your response was a bit uncalled for, it was a genuine question and not a dig at you (why the **** would it be?,)

If we move back to the UK then my wife will need to take up employment thus my daughter will need to be 'papped off' to nursery, hence my question to what is the difference between here and there.

As you were

all I can speak for is my home town, my cousin went back to work and her little girl went to a day centre 3 days a week - full day, then her Nanna had her the other two days. They aren't cheap these facilities though so I would definately look into what is available if you are seriously considering going back to Fanta Land
