Default Dubai - Rather confused... help much appreciated

Hello

I have been doing quite a bit of research but have managed to confuse myself.

Am I right in saying the following:

1) If you purchase a property you automatically get a residence visa which permits the right to work?

OR

2) You are given a visa by your employer which entitles you to rent/lease/buy a property?

Or are both correct?

Also - do I have to be sponsored by my husband? ie. Is it him who needs to find a job first to enable me to apply for work?

Thanks very much for any help

It is easy to confuse the situation here. Buying a house will give you a residence visa which needs to be renewed, I think under new rules, every 3 years. This does not entitle you to find employment.

The employment visa entitles you, under a sponsor who is normally your employer, to live and work here. This also allows you to rent a place to live once you have the visa in place.

Either spouse is entitled to sponsor their other half provided a certain salary level is achieved. The working spouse would act as sponsor for the other half. The OT can work either under the spouse sponsorship or by finding an employer who offers an employment visa.

If you can understand that, please explain to me cos i haven't a clue!

Emaar or whoever have apparently changed the rules someone said the other day they had been given a 3 year residency visa which is now due to expire and they are not going to be able to renew.

Correct when you purchase a property you are no longer entitled to a residency visa you now have to have a sponser.

Is this true??

Selling my property 13 months ago was a good move!

Thanks for the replies everyone... I dont know how you all keep up with it...its very confusing

So I assume then that we need to find the job (easier said than done ) - then get the visa from the employer - then rent a home and throw money at a landlord.

I hope I've got that right.

Would you say its easier to find work if you're in Dubai on a visitors visa for a couple of months or does it really make no difference?

Thanks everyone

I have seen property for sale on Dubai sites which say that a residency visa is included. Are these claims something to watch out for then? - even though I imagine we would rent anyway... but just out of interest. Its a bit daunting when you're sitting in the UK not sure what's fact or fiction on some of the job/real estate sites.

Thanks

There are only a few professions that allow a wife to sponsor her husband.....teacher/doctor/engineer and a couple of others

But if she has a salary above 10,000dhs they may allow it but it will depend on profession at the end of it.

that's not true Banter, I have got friends who have bought here and they all have residency visa's via their employers. Emaar are no longer issuing visas. The only visa you can get now against a property is the one that is valid for 6 months and costs 2400 dhs! or some ridiculous amount like that.

I don't understand this. I mean surely they want people to invest in the property that is being constructed. What incentive is there to buy a property in Dubai then? Or have I missed the point entirely...

No, you haven't missed the point... it's just that Dubai policymaking seems to work on a slightly alternative form of logic.
I guess that what "They" were focussing on was attracting the big investors who would build up large property portfolios and never intend to live in Dubai. That is indeed what has happened - foreign owner-occupiers are relatively few and far between.

The point is that all property eventually will go back to one of two places:

1) The desert
2) The ruling family

I'd buy stock in lehman brothers before touching dubai property. Although if you want to listed to that retard peter j. cooper all is well and golden in dubai and you should be buying property by the handful.
