Dubai Prices on Electrical Items?

Hey Guys,

Has anyone bought or going to buy a laptop or Camcorder in Dubai?

If so what kind of spec did you get and what did you pay or save over buying here in the UK?

Cheers

PC's and laptops are generally cheaper in the UK than here, although if your coming over the pound is strong at the moment so that might make it cheaper but I doubt it. The only laptop I've found thats considerably cheaper here is the new Sony Vaio UMPC, about £400 less here because its on general release and not a specialist import

A 30GB Ipod is 1099 Dirhams in Virgin in the Burjuman centre, which is around 150 pounds - ie. the price in the UK minus VAT. It's cheaper there than it is in the 'Duty Free' shop at the airport. So not a great reduction, but 30 quid ain't bad.

I only paid Dh1,000 for my 30gb video ipod about a year ago.

I reckon I could get it for Dh900 or less now.

Buy on the grey market and you'll get great bargains

Al Ain (Computer) Centre, mall next door to Goodfellas

But Carrefour is generally as cheap as anywhere and they've got (relatively) decent after sales service.

I'm not convinced that the quality of electrical and other stuff is the same as in the UK though, although I can't see why it shouldn't be...but I've had a fair few things I've bought here go wrong, even when they are only a few months old, such as my mobile, my car etc...

But seriously you do have a point, I've found that ipods here don't last as long as those in the uk however i reckon this has something to do with battery life in extreme temperatures - any electrical engineers out there - but the fact that you even managed to break your car, well I did chuckle!
