There are rumours of the QE2 being used a a gambling ship. You board, it sails to outside UAE waters and the onboard casino opens.

Allegedly...

It's just desert, dirty beaches and a concrete jungle...unless you can afford the luxurious life style available only to the rich. Oman beats Dubai hands down in the "interesting things to do and see" department.

ahhh, yes... Dubailand! I can't think of anything more enticing that queueing for rides with a couple of screa - sorry, delightful children in the nice warm weather we have here... I hope they'll be giving out free water!

Oh, and I actually agree with Ethos on the "stuff to do in Dubai" thing... if you stay a week, you'll have seen it all. And even then, it's a trial to get around the place.

yes, my point is that even if you did find the stuff, you don't know if it's accessible, going to be hot, going to have facilites to hand, going to be stuck in traffic for a while, etc...

Ofc, I'm coming at it from the point of view of a person with a 1 year old, so what I find important will be very different to what others do.

For example, they're putting the finishing touches to The Walk - all very nice, apart from the fact that many of the lifts don't work and there are areas where anyone in a wheelchair or pushing a pram has to walk on the road with oncoming traffic because they've overlooked putting in a ramp. It's brand new and yet they've "designed" something that not only doesn't work, but is downright dangerous.

I love exploring cities, but it's no fun when you find obstacles in your way that should never have been built.

I agree but we had tourists well before the walk was built and we found plenty to do, plenty places to visit etc. People come for the sun, food and shopping these days though.

You should write to Seven Days or Gulf News as I sincerely doubt that the "powers that be" will be reading the BE Forum. However, a complaining letter in the newspaper often gets a result. I am waiting for the ID card deadline to be extended and for the villa sharing rules to be scrapped, as they surely will.
