Dubai - foodies - there is a god...
... and his name is Michel Roux.
I know a few of you are foodies so wanted to share a few things....
1) Michel Roux is god. Nothing more to say, just worship at his feet and sniff is silvery hair. His Gourmet Night in Piceses (spelling?) was outstanding this week.
2) Festival of Taste Gala Dinner last night, the Galaxy Of Stars. Nice idea, really cool, but the food let it down... Alanis - over to you.... ironic...
3) Categorically, the best steak in Dubai is the 12 oz Wagyu tenderloin (of course I mean fillet) at Manhattan Grill done medium rare. It is 490 dhs and is the most amazing thing ever. (I got it using Dine In By Hyatt points by the way, I am attempting not sound like an arse, but failing I fear)
4) I am right at this second cooking a great curry. However it has blown the top off my head. If you like cooking go get 50 Great Curries Of India by Camellia Panjabi. However if you want to cook Rogan Josh and buy your Kasmiri Chilli from Carrefour - I suggest less than 2.5 tsps.
Anyways.
Give me food things. Go on. Feed me foodies stuff.
Autodigestion.

Mmm they sound delicious. Curries in NZ are NOTHING like the Uk curries, most ex pats here miss a good old Indian curry and crave one badly!
Most if us take to making our own as they are truly dire here.
A Korma for instance comes with huge lumps of chicken(??) in a thik brown sauce that looks more like gravy than korma and tastes nothing like our Uk Kormas, even colour is wrong. Aussie was just the same, not right at all.
I am hoping in Doha they have some 'real' curries.

OK, Have discovered this absolutely amazing Indian place called 'Sanjay Restaurant' (beats India Palace handsdown!), opposite the Sultan Business Centre (near lamcy) - about 5 blocks after Lemon Grass.
If you're after 5* ambience forget it (if you're fussy you could ask them to pack it for you and take away), decor is basic at best, but the food is brilliant - not overly spicy or greasy. And cheap cheap cheap.
I would recommend -
Dal Makhani
Numerous varieties of stuffed parathas (try the cheese Nan with Gravy)
actually, everything tastes good, so try what ever you fancy
Cheers

Hey Auto,
I love Coconut Grove too - but they specialise in South Indian cuisine - but this joint is North Indian - so the flavour is more authentic!
I've been having lunch there every single day (and so are my colleagues) since they opened
