Funnily enough, the British manager of one of our corporate competitors flies from Dubai to Hong Kong tomorrow evening to start a new career over there.

They appear to have only spoken to people in property, law, and banking. So yeah, they're pretty much all going to Asia.
Wait, isn't Dubai actually IN Asia?

The one that refers to this part of the world as Southwest Asia.

Of course it is - it's just that people refer to it more specifically than by its continental reference point.
This part of the world, when I was at school, was the "Near East" or "West Asia" - the expression Middle East didn't exist (I'm very old) and even today wouldn't make much sense to somebody east of here (e.g. in India).
And on the point in the article - why do people think Asia has escaped the economic meltdown?

I didn't make that connection. Perhaps the economies shrunk but still face shortages of skills that require expats?

I have two good buddies moving to Singapore in January.
Have to say I am jealous. Always liked Singapore better than Dubai. Amazing food and the women are prettier.

As I’m making the opposite switch, there should be plenty of vacated apartments+villas going at knock-down prices.

I've found that getting them in a head lock and pulling strongly backwards on the head garment usually works but it does tend to attract attention in the Mall when doing this....
