Re: Dubai - Buy or rent property?
I emailed HR and they responded saying this position will be stated as a Marketing Specialist. They said this is better than a sales designation as I have provided a degree certificate.
Should I push for a Manager designation? How will it impact me in the future if I don't have a Manager designation? If i was to settle and have a family, would it affect their status?
Thanks.

As far as I am aware the only restriction on sponsoring your family for residence is to ensure your salary is above a certain threshold (somewhere around 10,000 AED I seem to recall).

Thanks Scamp and Mogs. I wasn't going to complain but got an email about 10 minutes ago to mention they have changed the designation to 'Manager'.
On a separate note, on my contract, I have been allocated a monthly figure for 'Leave Passage'. What does this figure refer to and will I get this on my monthly pay cheque?

i.e. If you get paid 30k a month made up of 20k salary plus various allowances for 10k - you will only get gratuity calculated on 20k.

apart from the the 2 factors mentioned above, I think it is far easier to change jobs (visa wise) if you already have a manager title on your visa page i.e. you dont have to live out the 6 month ban when you cancel a visa from one company and want to go for another company, I was told you just pay a fine and your documents are processed same day, whereas a non-manager visa person will get an automatic 6 month ban. Hey I didnt make the rules ok??...they are all made up after a long night out and just on the spur of the moment ok?? Its all very technical ok?

Pretty sure, if you earn over 10 or 12k basic and have a degree there's no ban and no need for NOC. There's no need for NOC between Emirates and there's no need for NOC if in Freezone.

Never a ban. Never a fine.

Well they changed it to Manager designation without complaining so don't need to worry about that. With regards to ban, I was informed the new position if I move has to be a better position and pay for the ban to be lifted. Don't understand that rule but have been told not to question rules in that part of the world and just accept it.
I'm guessing no-one knows the answer to my leave passage query. I will ask HR the next time i speak to them.

If you multirply the monthly amount by 12, does it work out at around 3-5k AED, a very rough cost of a round trip flight to a regional UK airport?
If it is considerably higher or lower than this, then it must be something else.

He is more than welcome to it mate, but it's Disco Gardens, all the way close to Jebel Ali. Heck I've been there 3 times since I bought the place and even I think that it's too far off! One can't live there without a car to be honest!
