Doing The Visa Run

If you are waiting for your Residency Visa for the UAE to come through, is it still possible to drive to Oman and back? Or does this no longer qualify.

Many thanks.

Yes you can. Or we could last year. We did it in November, driving to Hatta and just over the border, then back again.

Isn't there now a new rule that you can only do a visa run once, and then you have to leave the UAE for a month before you can try again? Supposedly to make it more difficult for unmarried couples to come here?

From my understanding you're allowed two visa runs in total. You are allowed to extend your original 2 month stay by a month and each visa run by one month. At the end of the second visa run you have to leave the country for a month. So the maximum duration you can spend is 9 months before having to leave for a month.

Somebody please correct me if it is complete crap or if the rules have changed again.

Not too sure on rule, but I think after 2 runs you have to stay out of UAE for minimum 6 months.

I thought you don't have to do the visa runs any longer and you just paid an additional fee of AED 500  Also why do you think it will take more than a month to process your employment visa and your family's residence visa?

Might be worth checking with the PR in your office....

The fee of AED 500 only buys you an extra month, so total duration is 3 months, providing of course you residency visa hasn't come through. I think.

But it shouldn't take so long, certainly not more than 3 months for a visa - unless of course the PR in your office is really useless....

Yes, I think the PR is a bit useless as you note. I've been told it can take 3-6 months and thats in the free zone:blink:. But still I need to prepare for the situation.
