Yeah, there's nightlife for people in Doha.

But it doesn't come cheap.

First step is to buy a ticket to DXB....

The phrase "a contradiction in terms" comes to mind.

You need a Qatari I.D card or show your passport and you will gain entry the bar.

Try the Ramada Plaza , Admirals bar Ritz Carlton , W hotel , The Terrace at the Hyatt , German garden at the Marriot , Belgian Beer cafe Intercon , Spikes at the Golf club and Doha Rugby club if you can get a member to sign you in.

Don't even try to compare it to DXB/AD you'll come well short but they do the job if you want a few pints.

I only have a single entry visa, working on getting a multi entry as I am going to be here for 2 months and will have to escape at some stage.

Cheers fella, I am having a problem with my driving licence so when I get my bearings I will check them out the Rugby club and golf club sound promising I have also been recommended the Harp bar.
Even getting taxis here is a mare so polishing off me duty free until thats sorted.

Try Fox Private taxi service 0097444622777 , i's bit more expensive but at least they turn up on time and pick you up.

The Irish Harp is ok a bit like The Dubliners in Dubai but beware they fleece you for a 35QR joining fee and then 36QR for a pint of Lager..!!!

Theres around 8 bars in the Ramada plaza , must of them crap but at least you can wander around under the impression that the next one might be better than the last..

Stick with the 2nd floor bar in the old wing of the Ramada. The library bar kills the lungs with the smoke (and I am a smoker) and the bars in the new wing are soul less
Dont go expecting anything in Doha to be good. I have tried and its all shite really, just of varying degress

Best bet as everyone keeps saying is jump on plane for the weekend somewhere else

Indeed - People seem to be expecting some big city style nightlife in Doha as is found in Bahrain and Dubai.

I spent two very happy years in Doha in the late 90s, where socialising revolved around the various and numerous expat clubs and societies - dive club, rugby club, HHH, Doha players etc etc, and parties at each others villas, camping trips to the inland sea etc etc.

For a certain type of expat, a sleepy town, such as Doha was, is preferable to the big city, bright lights type of place.

If you were visiting without local contacts, then yes, there was no entertainment on a plate.

Glynster- you have duty free- how did you manage that? I got mine taken off of me at customs at Doha- and I needed a drink big time!
