Doha Compounds?
 

Hi All

I know everyone wants different things from their home but would appreciate if anyone could give me some feedback on pros/cons on living in different compounds/areas within Doha.
Myself and husband arriving over next week and we'll be working in Al Saad and Sidra hospital.
Looking for a villa but don't have any young kids to worry about

Plenty of compounds all over, everything from grotty worn out hovels with no communal amenities up through fancy multi bed/bath places with lots of lush greenery and spiffy communal clubs/pools etc. Prices from QR5000 to over QR50000 a month, sort of up to you really.

You can do some online research, LGBYF, but a lot of what you might see on different websites will be just dressing. The real view, on the ground will be a little less enthralling sadly. Set aside time for doing some real on the ground investigative work yourselves. Get a vehicle, rent or hired with a driver, get a map of the area you want to be in. Draw a circle of suitable radius and try to cover every road looking at all the places that have compounds, many many many are not marked, advertised or even shown, you just need to go check them out.

Understand what your expectations are and expect to be underwhelmed. Be sure to check the smallest of details and verify everything. Realise that any detail left not clarified has the potential to turn out very different from what you might reasonably expect.

Beverly Hills Al Rayyan is close to Sadd and Sidra. Big compound. Apartments and villas. Massive pools and people who live there seem happy enough.

But I'd just go for an apartment in West Bay or Pearl (West Bay is better quality methinks, Pearl is attractive but lots of teething issues). Doha is utterly unremarkable so if you can spend your entire time in Pearl/West Bay you're doing well and missing absolutely nothing.

Hi there. If housing allowance was not an issue... what would be the best compound for kids with all the amenities one could hope for? 4 or 5 bedroom villas pool gym etc... and well built?
