Default Does anywhere sell motor insurance for British expats visiting the UK?

We're trying to avoid hiring a car next time we're in the UK by being added to the insurance of our parents' cars. Unfortunately, my parents' insurer refuses to add us because we're not permanent UK residents (don't know about Suzanne's parents' insurer yet).

Does anyone know of anywhere that might sell short-term insurance cover that would allow us to drive our parents' cars independent of their existing UK policies?

Just thinking, would your own insurance here not provide something like back home if you go abroad you get the green card, worth asking.

Try your partner's parents' insurers - I've been able to get insured for friends' & familys' cars on previous vacations.

OK but say something about motor insurance.... Gareth gets annoyed with off-topic stuff.

In my experience, most major insurers will allow a non-resident Brit to be added to a policy, but at an additional cost.

Yes, Suzanne's parents' insurer is covering us for their car, but my parents' one won't. No biggie though, Norwich Union Direct do a specific short-term policy that will cover us driving my parents' car.

My wife and I are on my parents cars for when I am back in the UK. We "live" at their address, and have UK licences. No problems having me and my wife added.

You need to be careful if you're pretending to be UK resident. Should you need to make a claim and it transpires that you don't live permanently in the UK, your insurance would be invalidated.

We could have pretended for our parents' insurer, but didn't feel it was worth the risk. Sod's law, and all that
